Human Responses
Week 80
When we see the creation, our response is that we know there is God
A precious part of our humanity is that we become aware, we recognize (or are affected) and we respond to the world around us. Through our senses, we touch, smell, taste, hear, and move responding to what’s around us in a variety of ways. God has endowed us with the ability to respond in ways that are well beyond any animal. Animals typically do not exhibit any responses to what they see, hear, touch, and taste outside the realm of their survival. We, of course, have many responses to the world around us.
Point to emphasize
When we realize the vastness of creation, we realize there is a God.
Verse references
When I see Your heavens, the works of Your fingers, / The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is mortal man, that You remember him, / And the son of man, that You visit him? (Psalm 8:3-4)
The heavens declare the glory of God, / And the expanse proclaims the work of His hands. (Psalm 19:1)
For the invisible things of Him, both His eternal power and divine characteristics, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being perceived by the things made, so that they would be without excuse. (Romans 1:20)
Sample content and conversation with children
We have been discovering how God made us so differently than the animals. Now we will discover that God gave us a sense of the largeness of creation and we are in awe, considering that God had to be the One Who made it all.
- Night sky—Have you ever been out at night and seen the sky filled with stars? What did you think when you looked at the sky? [Get responses from the children.] Isn’t the sky huge? Isn’t it amazing? [Show video #1.] Look at all those stars! Who can count all of them? [Call a child’s name], can you count all the stars? I can’t count them! It is impossible to count them all! There are billions and billions of stars! [If the group consists of older children, consider mentioning facts like the Milky Way, our galaxy, being only one of the many galaxies in the Universe; the precise distances and revolutions of the sun, the moon, and the earth giving us our calendar, seasons, climate, etc. Such a wonderful design must have been made only by God!] [Show pictures #1-3.] What is this? The moon! Have you seen the moon at night? Isn’t it beautiful? When you started to talk, maybe one of your first words was probably “MOON!”, because even as little children we are fascinated and full of admiration for such a wonderful creation. How wonderful the heavens are, and how little we are on this earth! Now, who could have made such a wonderful sky? [Let the children answer.] Could you? Could your parents? No!! ONLY GOD. God had to be the One who made the heavens!
- Ocean—[Show video #2 and/or pictures 4-5.] What about the ocean? Have you stood in front of the sea? Isn’t it big and great and full of so many great sea creatures? How big is the ocean? [You can show a world globe so they can see how much water there is on earth. Get responses from children]. Who could have made such a vast ocean and all the amazing creatures that live in it? God!! When we watch all the wonders of creation, we sense that there must be a God. There must be a God, one God, who made it all! Do you think those little birds in the video of the ocean look at the sea and wonder who must have made it? Do they consider God? NO!!!
- No animal has this inner sense of awe. From the smallest animal, like an ant, to great and big animals, like elephants and whales, that are even bigger than humans, they don’t even notice the moon or the stars. Have you ever seen any of your pets stop and stare at the moon like you do? No! Nor does such a view give them the thought that there is a God. No animal considers God.
- Seeing the night sky filled with stars or the great vastness of the ocean, causes us to feel so small and to know that there is a God Who made it all. We were made in a very special way!
Suggested songs:
Who Created the Jungle (see below)
How about the mountains
Our God is So Big
Who Made the World So Big and Round?
Song: Who Created the Jungle
Who created the jungle?
Who created the sea?
Who created the universe?
And who created me?
It was our Creator God, YES!
He created me!
He created the universe,
The jungle and the sea!
God created the jungle.
God created the sea
God created the universe
And God created me.
Suggested activities
- Make some binoculars (or a telescope) with toilet paper rolls to watch creation (See pictures #6 and #7).
- Show and tell: Take a walk and look for something in creation that amazes you (if on Zoom have them walk outside and get a flower, leaf, bring a pet…)
- During the week, take your children outside at night, look at the moon and the stars, or take a walk at a nearby park or nature reserve. Talk to your children to impress them that everything in creation is a wonderful testimony, witnessing to the existence of a Wonderful Creator! “Such a wonderful testimony displayed in the universe around us is a living witness to the existence of a Creator.” (There is God booklet)
