2026 Family Camp—Our Household: The Unit of Service!
Our families are very important to God! We are not a common family unit. Our family knows what makes God happy. Our families know God, who He is, and that His Word (the Bible) tells us who God is and what He wants.
In our families, we learn many things. We learn how to brush our teeth, button our shirts, ride a bike, and catch a ball. However, our families are very special—not only because we also learn to sing, to pray, and to love God’s Word, but because we see our parents’ example, and inside of us, we develop an inward attitude to participate in what our grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, etc. are doing related to God and what pleases Him. How important is our household, our family unit! On one side, parents take the lead, teaching, being a pattern, and bringing their children to do things with them. On the other side, children watch, learn, and are willing to participate in what their parents are doing.
In the book of Exodus, we see a picture of the importance of the families to God. This is the first time God had a large group of people, and He asked them to do something as families. Exodus 12:3 says: “Speak to all the assembly of Israel, saying, On the tenth of this month each man shall take a lamb according to his fathers’ house, a lamb for a household.” The crucial point here is that this lamb was not for every individual, but for every house. As they were preparing this lamb, every member participated.
In Exodus chapter 10, Moses and Aaron were asking Pharaoh to let the children of Israel leave Egypt to go and hold a feast unto Jehovah so that they may serve Him. Pharaoh asked Moses, “Who exactly are going? And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds, for we must hold Jehovah’s feast” (vv. 8-9). No one was staying behind! The entire household was going!
When all the families finally left Egypt, the Bible then tells of different “feasts” where they all gathered by families to join other families to rejoice before Jehovah. Some of these events were strictly structured around individual households and then combined with other households.
By its very nature, a feast is a corporate matter. No one can hold a feast alone; to have a feast, we must be together with many others. And in every feast, we all have the opportunity to participate.
In the Old Testament, parents had a direct commandment to explain the meaning of each feast to their children. Exodus 12:26-27 says: “And when your children say to you, What do you mean by this service? You shall say, It is the Passover…”. Parents would also model to their children on how to carry out each feast so that these feasts were preserved generation after generation.
Now, what about our families? God wants us to come together as a family and with other families to hold a feast! We should see that all our gatherings are a feast with God and with the believers we gather with in the presence of God. Sometimes, we gather in our home, sometimes in someone else’s home, and sometimes in the meeting hall. If we gather for a feast, and if we all get there and sit down, who is going to decide the meal? Who will cook? Who is going to arrange where we will sit? Who will serve the food? Who will clean up afterwards? Oh, so many opportunities to participate! How about when people come from other cities or countries? Where will they stay? If no one participates in these things, there will be no feast!
Service is an inward attitude of receiving, welcoming, being willing to help, thinking of others first, and caring for them. This means that others are first and we are second. How wonderful it is that we are part of a household as a unit of service!
May the Lord gain from all of our families a fresh and new consecration to be those who declare, “But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah” (Josh. 24:15). May all the members of each household among us be those who participate in all the opportunities before us to meet God’s need!

Memory Verse Station
We encourage all families to spend time together memorizing the Bible verses! Each child will receive a memory verse card based on their age group, in addition to their name badge. Once your child/children have memorized a verse, guide them to the Memory Verse Station to recite the verses to the ones serving in that area. Please, make sure they wait until a check mark is added to their card and recorded by the serving ones. On the final day, prizes will be awarded to those who have memorized at least one verse.
The Memory Verse Station will be open on:

Saturday: 3:30-4:00 pm and 5:45-7:00 pm

Singing
We will have corporate times of singing and stories. Please, sit with your children at all times. Encourage your children to participate by being the first to sing and follow the instructions. Each family will receive a printed songbook on Lord’s Day. We encourage all the families to start familiarizing themselves with the songs for this time. You can find an audio playlist of the songs under the “Songs” tab at: https://children.churchinanaheim.org/family-camps or go to the playlist available in SoundCloud.

Story Times
During our three meetings together, we will develop the burden of this Family Camp, followed by short stories/testimonies from some families, young adults, college-age, and young people about some of their spiritual history with their families for our mutual encouragement as follows.
Family Activity
On Saturday afternoon, we will have an activity by families. All necessary materials will be provided. This is an opportunity for all family members to work together. Find ways to distribute the tasks among each family member.
Lunch and Games at the Park (Lord’s Day)
Location: Tri-City Park (2301 N. Kraemer Blvd., Placentia, CA 92870). Lunch will be provided at 1:00 pm. Family games will start promptly at 2:00 pm. We encourage families to bring a change of clothes and arrive at the park after the Lord’s Day meeting to eat with other families. After the games, we will gather to sing and share our final stories. Finally, we will award prizes to all who memorized their verses. We recommend that each family bring picnic chairs or blankets. Make sure to bring water for the members of your family!
