Awesomely and Wonderfully Made

Week 86
Boys and girls are not the same (1)

In Psalms 139:13-14, David writes, “For it was You who created my inward parts; / You wove me together in my mother’s womb. / I will praise You, for I am awesomely and wonderfully made”. Awesomely, when translated from the Hebrew, means “with great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect.”

Our humanity is precious to God and to us because He Himself wove us in our mother’s womb and awesomely and wonderfully made us. We should appreciate how God created us, male and female. We must thank and praise Him for our humanity and do our utmost to preserve it.

Since there is such a swift downward current in our society today, we must preserve our children’s humanity by presenting to them the truth in the Bible regarding how God awesomely and wonderfully made them male and female. May the Lord use the topics contained in this block to help instill this truth into our younger ones to preserve them from the chaos in our society.

Point to emphasizeBoys and girls are not the same.

Sample content and conversation with children

  • Today we are going to start our time with a game. This game is called “same and different”.
  • Let’s look at this picture and see what is the same about these children. [Show picture #1 or a collage of pictures of children’s faces that they may know.]
  • What is the same about all these faces? [Let them answer. All are children with hair, eyes, noses, mouths, they are all happy!] Now, let’s see what is different about them. [Let them talk about the differences: the color of their hair, shape, and color of their eyes, skin, glasses, missing teeth, boys, girls, etc.]
  • So, the children are the same in many ways, but they are also different in other ways.
  • [Show a fruit bowl or show picture #2.] Now, what is the same in this picture? [Let them answer. Do you see vegetables? No! Do you see eggs? No! They are all fruits.] Here we see a bowl full of fruit. Not one is a vegetable. So, in that way all these fruits are the same. But now, tell me, how are they different? [Let them answer, different colors, shapes, names, and taste.]
  • [Hold up, a banana and an orange or show picture #3.] Do these look the same? NO! Who can describe what the banana looks like? And who can tell us what the orange looks like? [Let them answer both.] Now, these two fruits look totally different, don’t they? But they are the same in one way. Can you eat a banana or an orange like this? [biting into them.] NO! What do you need to do to eat them? [Let them answer.] That is exactly right. You have to peel both fruits in order to eat them. [Peel both fruits and put them on a plate or show picture #4.] Does the inside of the banana look like the inside of the orange? No. They are different on the outside [show unpeeled fruit] and they are different on the inside [show the peeled fruit.]
  • We have been playing our game called “Same and Different”. These are the same in that they are all children [point to picture #1] and these are the same in that they are both fruits [point to picture #3.] And they are different in that this is a banana and this an orange. They are different in that they have different colors, different shapes and when you peel them they also look very different in the inside! God created the banana one way and the orange a different way. In the same way, God created boys in one way and girls in a very different way! God created us in the best way!
