Awesomely and Wonderfully Made
Week 87
Boys and girls are not the same (2)
In Psalms 139:13-14, David writes, “For it was You who created my inward parts; / You wove me together in my mother’s womb. / I will praise You, for I am awesomely and wonderfully made”. Awesomely, when translated from the Hebrew, means “with great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect.”
Our humanity is precious to God and to us because He Himself wove us in our mother’s womb and awesomely and wonderfully made us. We should appreciate how God created us, male and female. We must thank and praise Him for our humanity and do our utmost to preserve it.
Since there is such a swift downward current in our society today, we must preserve our children’s humanity by presenting to them the truth in the Bible regarding how God awesomely and wonderfully made them male and female. May the Lord use the topics contained in this block to help instill this truth into our younger ones to preserve them from the chaos in our society.
Point to emphasize
Boys and girls are not the same, and sometimes the differences can be very subtle.
Sample content and conversation with children
- Last week we talked about how God made boys one way and He made girls in a different way. [Show a banana and an orange or picture #1.] Just like one fruit, a banana, is different from an orange, another fruit. They are different on the outside and on the inside.
- Let’s look at two more fruits. Do these look the same? What are these fruits? [Show a mango and a peach or show picture #2. Let them answer. These fruits are not the same but similar.] What color is this mango? And how about the peach? So, in color they are similar, both have more than one color. Sometimes things are very similar and it is so hard to tell them apart but they are not the same.
- But how are they different? [Let them answer; shape, smooth, or fuzzy. If you have the fruit pass it around so the children can smell and feel them.] Now, let’s cut them open. [Or show picture #3.] The color of the inside between the mango and the peach is very similar. The mango and the peach pits are both large. Now, we get to eat them. YUM! Do they taste the same? They are both sweet and good but they don’t taste the same. God made the mango and He also made the peach. They are similar but they are different.
- [Show picture #4.] Let’s look at the faces of these children. Their faces look alike in some ways, but we can tell they are different. They are not the same. As I point to each face, you tell me if it is a boy or a girl. Now, let’s go around the room [or look at the screen] and see who is a boy and who is a girl.
- God made boys and girls so that they are alike in some ways yet different from each other.
- God does everything good! He made each of us in the best way. We can all together say, “Thank You, God, for making me a boy/girl!”
