Awesomely and Wonderfully Made

Week 85
Both boys and girls are needed

In Psalms 139:13-14, David writes, “For it was You who created my inward parts; / You wove me together in my mother’s womb. / I will praise You, for I am awesomely and wonderfully made”. Awesomely, when translated from the Hebrew, means “with great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect.”

Our humanity is precious to God and to us because He Himself wove us in our mother’s womb and awesomely and wonderfully made us. We should appreciate how God created us, male and female. We must thank and praise Him for our humanity and do our utmost to preserve it.

Since there is such a swift downward current in our society today, we must preserve our children’s humanity by presenting to them the truth in the Bible regarding how God awesomely and wonderfully made them male and female. May the Lord use the topics contained in this block to help instill this truth into our younger ones to preserve them from the chaos in our society.

Point to emphasize
Both boys and girls are needed.

Sample content and conversation with children

  • [Show the Bible.] Does anyone remember what we read from God’s Word about how God created us? [Refer to Week 82.] [Let them answer.] Yes, we read that God created both boys and girls. I want you to know how important every girl and every boy is to God.
  • [Show picture #1 or a picture of a family of more than four.] How many girls are in this family? [Let the children answer.] How many boys are in this family? [Let them answer.] How many are in your family? [Let each child talk about their family.] What does each family need? [Let them answer] Yes! A family needs a mommy, a daddy, and children. That is right! Every family starts out with a mommy and a daddy – a man and a woman, and then they have children. This is why God made both boys and girls. He knew both were wonderful! AND both were needed for a family.
  • [Show picture #2 or of another family.] In every family, there is a father and a mother. If there were only girls, we would not have any daddies. And if there were only boys, we would not have any mommies. Only in the mommy is there a special place created for a baby to grow. That place inside a woman is called a womb. Men don’t have that special space inside. That is why God was so happy to make boys and girls. He knew that a family needed both a daddy and a mommy. And since God was happy to make you a boy, you can be so happy to be a boy. And since God was happy to make you a girl, you can be so happy to be a girl.
  • BUT there are a lot of things both boys and girls can do. Let’s play a game. If a boy can do this, then boys jump up. If a girl can do this, then girls turn around. [Use picture #3 or have a list of activities that boys and girls can do. You can say, ”If boys can play with balls, all boys jump up. If girls can play with balls, all girls turn around.”] So, you all know that both boys and girls can do so many kinds of the same things. Now, when preschoolers grow older, can a boy play the piano? Jump if you are a boy! Can a girl play the piano? Turn around if you are a girl! [Show picture #4 or have a list of activities that older children do.] Wow, that was so much fun jumping up and turning around!
  • There are many activities that both boys and girls can do. But we know only boys grow up to be daddies and only girls grow up to be mommies. We can all together say, “Thank You, God, for making me a boy/girl!”
